Jason Tucholke was born and raised on a farm in rural South Dakota. His childhood was full of farmland, open prairie, and animals. Meanwhile, his ears were full of Rock 'n' Roll, old Country music, Lakota songs, and liturgical music.
Since receiving a degree in music, his formal education has been focused on theatrical sound and media, computer based composition, art technology, and education. His musical influences are eclectic - ranging from large and small choral works, classical composers such as Igor Stravinsky, and Samuel Barber, Jazz greats like Charles Mingus and Nina Simone, R&B artists such as Bill Withers and Al Green, to the rock of AC/DC and metal of Tool. Recently he has become widely interested in ambient music and the Post-Rock movement.
His composition work has been featured on Star’s End and Still Stream. He has composed music and created sound work for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, 3U SHAK3SF3ST, Prarieland Movement Dance Project, Illinois State University School of Theatre and Dance, the Sloan College of Communications and Fine Arts, and Central Washington University's Theatre Arts department.
